:: What is Palm PR? Palm PR is the Intertraff Automatic Number plate recognition software for Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC, Windows Mobile 2003 SE or Windows Mobile 5.0. :: Which model of PDA does Palm PR use? Palm PR can be installed on any PDA running Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC, Windows Mobile 2003 SE or Windows Mobile 5.0 equipped with an SD memory card slot and a Compact Flash card slot. :: Does Palm PR read the number plates automatically or does it need a manual or external trigger? Palm PR does not need an external or manual trigger to start the recognition process. The system reads the license plate, as soon as it enters the camera field. :: Can the PDA be used outdoor? To protect the PDA there are a lot of options. We suggest to employ a rugged case to easily transport the PDA for protecting the display, preventing water contamination, keeping out dust, and avoiding damage from dropping it. The hard plastic cover stands guard while still letting you view the screen. Raise the cover and the clear protective screen remains in place. :: Is the display visible outdoor? Yes it is. Ensure that your PDA mounts a Transflective TFT LCD. Benefits of adopting Transflective technology include: Power saving and Sun light readability. :: Which camera does Palm PR support? For images capturing, PalmPR uses a colour camera or an Infrared camera. Both cameras require the PDA to have a compact flash card slot available. While the colour camera can be purchased from any specialized computer shop, the infrared camera was expressively developed for the PalmPR by Intertraff. Palm PR Camera mounts a CMOS ¼" sensor :: Which lens does the CF camera mount? Palm PR Camera mounts swivel Lens 210° :: Which is the maximum camera to vehicle distance? Strictly related with number plate dimensions, it's usually from 2 to 4 meters. :: What's the Palm PR recognition rate? Recognition rate depends on many factors: ambient lighting, camera aiming and exposure… In our experience Palm PR can read successfully the 95% of all the license plates caught in the camera field of view. :: How long the PDA takes to perform a single reading? Less then one second. Pictures saving and number plate comparison against the local archives included. :: Does Intertraff license the Palm PR software or does it sell the hardware and software license together? We do only license the software and sell the infrared camera. :: Which information does Palm PR record, when it reads a number plate? Palm PR save onto the SD memory the following information/pictures: - 1 vehicle full image picture; - 1 plate patch picture; - Number plate in text format; - Date & Time of reading; - PDA ID; - Alarm message (if the number plate was found in the local archives); :: Is it possible to save only the number plate read in text format? Operator freely decides which information, type of picture save or not onto the SD memory. :: Is it possible to save a number plate reading on the internal PDA memory. This is possible but of course limited to the internal memory space available. :: How many readings can be saved on 128MB SD memory? Supposing that the Palm PR operator needs to save the following information/pictures for each reading: 1 vehicle full image picture; 1 plate patch picture; Number plate in text format; Date & Time of reading; PDA ID; Alarm message (if the number plate was found in the local archives); He will be able to save about 500 records. More than 2.000 records on a 512 MB. :: Does Palm PR have any local database? Palm PR has a powerful database which can handle contemporarily 2 different archives: Black and White. The Black list Archive can be useful when Operator needs to be alerted if the plate is found in the archive. The White list Archive alerts Operator if the plate is not present in the archive itself (useful for restricted area enforcement or similar). Palm PR Operator freely decides which archive must be active. :: How do Operator update the local Archives? Operator keeps the Archives updated using the Intertraff Palm PR Manager. :: What happen when a number plate is found in the Black List Archive? The Palm PR front end starts flashing while the image of the vehicle and it's plate patch is frozen. An alarm sound is played. The message to the Operator starts flashing. :: Is it possible to search the PDA memory for a specific number plate? Once a number plate is read and the information/pictures stored on the internal or SD memory, Operator may filter the data and search for a specific number plate. :: Is it possible to add manually a number plate? Operator may grab a picture pushing any button present under the PDA screen. Having caught a specific picture he can enter the number plate using the touch screen keyboard. The record will be then stored in the usual way on the SD memory and may be downloaded later in the Palm PR Manager within all the other readings. :: Can Operator correct a wrong automatic license plate reading? Yes, this is possible. :: Does Palm PR read any type of license plates? Palm PR is actually working successfully in many different countries but with the right tuning its recognition ability can be quickly extended :: How many readings can be saved on 512MB SD memory? Supposing that the Palm PR Operator needs to save the following information/pictures for each reading: - 1 vehicle full image picture; - 1 plate patch picture; - Number plate in text format; - Date & Time of reading; - PDA ID; - Alarm message (if the number plate was found in the local archives); He will be able to save about 2.000 records..
